SAM SOPWITH
Born in 1978, Sam Sopwith grew up in England before moving to Canada.
Her great interest in drawing and painting started from a young age but was more fully explored while living in Vancouver Island. She was encouraged by a local artist and trained with a sculptor, who taught her to sculpt in Brazilian Soapstone.
Sam returned to England where she studied with the renowned sporting artist Neil Forster, under whose unrivalled expertise she gained her understanding of the form and structure of animals and developed her love of drawing and painting animals. During this time she concentrated on working in pastel.
Sam then spent a number of years in Italy studying classical portraiture and oil painting before returning to London in 1999, where she established her studio. Since then she has undertaken many commissions in a wide variety of subjects, including houses, racehorses, highland cattle, portraits of members of Her Majesty's Bodyguard and virtually every known breed of dog. From London and her studio in Mallorca Sam works in a variety of mediums, depending on her subject.
