We have always admired the institution of the New English Art Club and as a gallery are broadly aligned with the club’s ethos of promoting skills-based practice, particularly the encouragement of drawing as the basis of good painting. In our current exhibition in the main gallery we show three current members who are not only exemplary ambassadors for their club but each the embodiment of draughtsmanship as a foundation of fine art.
To illustrate the consistency of quality through the last one hundred and forty years of the Club’s existence we have delved into our gallery collections to bring you this selection of works by past and current members from the 1930s to the present day. All paintings are available for sale and will be hung in our upper gallery throughout the Peter Brown, Felicity House and Robert Wells exhibition.
