A new collection of work by four of Scotland’s leading contemporary women painters. The influence of the Scottish Colourists has long dominated Scottish painting, having brought the vivid palette and broad brush of the Fauves to Edwardian Scotland, their influence is discernible in a subsequent century of that country’s painting. The challenge of those working in the tradition today is to plough a distinctive furrow while acknowledging the best of the Colourists’ legacy. We have chosen these four painters for their success in finding their own artistic language while retaining that Scottishness that makes their, and their contemporaries’ work so recognisable. A vibrant, life-affirming show to brighten up the gallery this autumn.
