CHARLES ANDERSON R.S.W., Hon F.R.I.A.S., D.A.
Born in 1936, Charles studied Drawing & Painting at Glasgow School of Art under David Donaldson and Mary Armour. He graduated with Diploma in 1959 and the following year entered The Royal Scottish Academy painting competition for Post Graduate students and won the Chalmers Bursary. With the encouragement of Joan Eardley, Charles exhibited at the RSA the same year.Following a period of 5 years teaching art, Charles worked as a professional mural painter and sculptor for the next 30 years. This involved him working on major art and design projects throughout the UK, carrying out commissions. His most prestigious commission to date was the result of winning a national sculpture competition to provide a bronze figurative group which is entitled "The Community" for Liningston New Town in 1996. Since early 1997 Charles has returned to the painting of easel pictures and contributes to the annual exhibitions of The Royal Glasgow Institute, the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours, The Royal Scottish Academy and The Paisley Art Institute. He is invited to exhibit regularly at various galleries throughout the UK and his work is held in many private and public collections throughout the UK and abroad.In recognition of his work Charles Anderson was recently awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.
