ANA BIANCHI

Born in 1952 Ana trained as a designer in Paris at Esmod Guerre Lavigne. She moved to London where she studied fine art at Chelsea College of Art, the Byam Shaw, gaining a 1st class degree, and Central St. Martin's in London. At the start of her career she was working on both two dimensional and three dimensional works of art. Now confining her work entirely to painting, in her most recent works Ana Bianchi handles the texture, colour and form of the landscape with a sculpting hand, almost carving the paint on to the canvas with a layering of colour and varied brushwork. Often inspired by the landscape that surrounds her, these paintings are explorations of the cutting and layering of shape and colour in a rural setting and they combine a rich palette with a tendency to abstraction and painterly brushwork. These works maintain a delightful equilibrium between representational landscapes and the subject as abstract inspiration. The simplicity of her still life and figure paintings belie the complex formal qualities that underpin her work. Her compositions of still life draw for their structure on her earlier work as a sculptor. Ana has exhibited widely in the UK and Europe, in London she has been a selected artist at the Discerning Eye exhibition. She has curated the biennial Quenington open-air sculpture show (2005 -2013) and has also been a regular contributor to this Exhibition.
