Born 1969 John studied Art, Design and Illustration at the University of Westminster, graduating with a BA (Hons) in 1991. He has exhibited in numerous solo shows and art fairs in the UK, Europe, and the USA, including the National Portrait Gallery, London.
Describing his work John writes: ‘I love the feeling of being alone in the landscape, breathing it in, sensing the subtle shifts of light and colour as the day closes down or opens up. If I am looking at a city, I’ll imagine the lives contained within. The hopes and dreams of all those people, the little victories, the small defeats. Once I’ve sketched, drawn and annotated the view, over and over, it finally begins to sink in. When my feelings for the subject have deepened, when I’m feeling as if I’m part of the place, rather than just looking in from the outside then it may be real enough to paint. I think the only way to know something is to put the hours in. Like painting, like life’.
