Born 1954, David studied at Nottingham School of Art before doing a Degree in painting at Gloucestershire College of Art from 1974 to 1977. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Watercolour Society in March 2001, becoming a full member in 2003. Under the shadows of the coastal landscape of Eastern England, his formative years continue to influence his original and evocative work. By mixing his own paints from Italian raw pigment and acrylic gels, David creates a subtle scenario in which figures and landscapes blend harmoniously. He builds up layers of paint and adds gold and silver leaf to highlight key areas in order to achieve his unique, exciting style. David's pictures are a marriage of landscape, figure and form within which a tangible spirit of serenity is discernible. He has contributed work annually to The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Laing Landscape Competition at the Mall Galleries, The Royal West of England Academy and Millfield Open, where he was a prize winner in 1995, 1996 and 1999. David has also exhibited widely, both in mixed and one-man shows, all over the country. Exhibitions include Chichester Open (where he won First prize in 1997), the 20th Century Art Fair and the Laing Open at Bristol Cathedral (where he won First prize in 1998).
