GEORGE SOPER R.E.
A fine British etcher and painter of the 1920's era, George Soper is widely known for his depictions of rustic scenes and of animals in motion. He portrays rural life in all its harshness of the era. His eye for detail is quite staggering. His etchings are considered some of the finest of his time.

Soper first studied art at Ramsgate and spent the early part of his career as an illustrator. He began studying etching under Sir Frank Short in 1905 and from that date, most of his talents were directed towards original printmaking. Soper's etchings were and are considered to be among the finest of their time and he was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy as well as being a full member of the Royal Engravers. Both the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, include examples of his etchings in their collections. Soper did not number his original etchings. Most, however, were published in editions of seventy-five impressions.
