Studied at Simi Academy, Florence, at St. Martin's School of Art and at Bristol College of Art before joining Christie's as a Director in the Modern British Picture Department. He then became a Fine Art Consultant and Artist.
Farmar now lives on the Dorset/Wiltshire border where he is inspired by the local landscape of rolling downs, woods, coasts, farms and fields. He travels extensively abroad and tries to capture the season and atmosphere of the places he visits. His paintings show his love of architecture and buildings, gardens, people, birds and beasts in both urban and rural contexts. Following a long tradition of bird's-eye panoramas stretching back to the sixteenth century, Francis tries to embrace more than can be seen from a single viewpoint, pulling and bending the landscape to reveal a broader vision filled with incident. Farmar's work is exhibited in many galleries and he has Greetings Cards and a range of Limited Edition Giclee Prints published.
