Born in Trinidad, he was educated at Clifton College, Bristol and the West of England College of Art, gaining Honours in the National Diploma in Furniture Design. After obtaining a commission in the army he subsequently became a furniture designer. Redundancy in 1986 gave him the opportunity to start a new career painting. Using his design skills and the basic training at art school in drawing, taught by Victor Passmore, RA, he studied the great watercolour masters of the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1986 he started teaching watercolour painting and organised courses in many countries. He has also travelled extensively for his own painting. Paul has exhibited widely. His work has been entered in several competitions and he has won many prizes. He has published articles in Artists and Illustrators four times. He is a member of the Wapping Group of Artists, a select group of 25 who meet every week during the summer months to paint different parts of the Thames and is also a tutor at Dedham Hall, Summerleaze, the Almonry and Maybanks Studio.
